The very valuable thing about hiring an agency/freelancer with deep expertise is the fact that they already have their own workflow to solve your problems. And working with them is way better and way faster. Because they already learned a lot in their past projects and they will be able to even guide you to make the process go smoother. Check if they were creating stuff for your industry. Check if they already solved problems for similar companies like yours.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Check if they would be the best fit for you based on their past clients and portfolio.&nbsp;

Speaking of past clients and portfolios. Please always check if they already created something that you desire or you think you need. Check if they were working on anything with your competitors. This should boost up your choice by a lot. Because if they understand your competitors’ problems, they will quickly understand your problems and they will solve them very quickly. If they didn’t, but for example, you love their style of work, you should consider working with them. Some firms/freelancers want to change directions of expertise sometimes and if you find their style appealing it is a good start too!

There are a lot of reasons why you should hire agencies/freelancers locally and there are a lot of reasons why you should hire them internationally. Every situation is different and it is not always easy to figure out something like that. But if you didn’t work with anyone yet you need to decide what would be the best for you.

Locally: If your budget is big enough to hire someone locally and you already got propositions from local agencies/freelancers. Go with them! The advantages of local businesses are: they speak fluently in the same language as you do, and they live in the same timezone as you do if you create a social experiment for your city/country which needs a full understanding of the current situation they will be the best because they understand it from inside and out by living there, and you don’t have to worry about the currency exchange rate.

Internationally: usually (but not always) hiring someone from a different country is cheaper than hiring someone in your country, they will treat you even better because “you are the international client” that they can brag about, sometimes the effectiveness of people who are from different countries is better (depending on country and culture), if this agency/freelancer is from a country where your “dollar” or “euro” or “pound” is more valuable they will appreciate working with you even more when you sleep they are working and usually when you are starting your working day they already have everything finished. Those are, of course, just a few examples. There are tons of advantages and disadvantages. But it only depends on your situation and how comfortable you feel about hiring people like that.

Outside connections. Maybe they know someone who can help me with other problems.

The “outside connections” is a very interesting topic. Because you don’t always know what you need in the future - which is understandable. Just to give you an example what do we mean by “outside connections”?&nbsp;

One of our clients recently reached out to us to create a very advanced website. And we are not a “web development agency”, but because we are friends with or have connections with the best development companies we proposed to them that we would be able to work on a project like that. The client knows that we always do everything that is in our power to deliver, so they trusted us with this project. A few months later, we gave them an amazingly working website and they were happy and we are happy that they trusted us.

And that is what we call “good outside connections”. A lot of design firms/freelancers have people in their connections that can be trusted. When you are working with design outsourcing and, for example, they have to make designs for your social media or prints, they probably know good marketing agencies or printing companies that they trust and they could recommend you - sometimes even for a better price.

We think that this is basic knowledge. But sometimes people forget about it. Read the reviews on their website. Read the testimonials clearly or anything about them on the internet.

There are a lot of people/agencies that are showing only sugar on their websites - everyone wants to look good - but after all, they are not the best partners to work with. Please be careful with that!

The “hard question” that almost everyone asks at the beginning. We are a bit biased on this because we are an agency and we should say “take an agency!” but we are aware that not everyone needs an agency. If you decided already that you know your problem which you need to solve with the design, and you and your company understand exactly who you need and what tasks they should do. And if you want to manage more people and you like taking more risks. Hire freelancers. But if you need more insights, understand the problem better, and learn more about the problem you need to solve. Hire an agency! Agency’s BIG advantage is that they know who you exactly need! The agencies always have a big base of the best people internally and externally. We are only working with people who can deliver!
